Ashrama (Math) Activities

​The Universal Temple of Sri Ramakrishna

As the centre grew and prospered, the need for a new and spacious temple was felt. Accordingly, the foundation for the new Universal Temple was laid by Revered Swami Gambhiranandaji Maharaj, the 11th President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission in September 1988. The new temple was completed in 1998 and consecrated by Revered Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj, the 13th President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, on a grand scale on 11th May, 1998, the auspicious Buddha Purnima day.
The Ashrama activities revolve around the Temple and consist of Nitya Puja (daily worship) offered to Sri Ramakrishna. The birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ma Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda. Sri Sri Durga Puja, Sri Sri Kali Puja, Phalaharini Kali Puja, Snan Yatra, Saraswati Puja, Shivaratri are also observed with special worship and Homa. 
The birthdays of the direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna, Bhagavadpada Sankaracharya, Bhagavan Buddha, Sri Ram Navami, Sri Krishna Janmastami, Christmas and Dol Purnima are celebrated at the temple. Rama-nama-sankirtan is also sung on every Ekadashi Day.
The gates of the Ashrama was closed since April 2020 at the directives of our Headquarters as well as the Government to stop the spread of the Corona Virus. On special occasions, puja and homa ceremonies were telecast live through the facebook account of the Ashrama, for the benefit of the devotees.

​Book Stall

The Ashrama also runs a book stall which sells Ramakrishna–Vivekananda–Vedanta literature. A new book stall was inaugurated as part of the Centenary celebrations in 2018.

​Goushala

The Ashrama maintains a goushala with about 20 cows. The milk from the cows are provided for preparation of offerings at the temple, monastic members and staffs.

​Old Shrine & Library

The Ashrama has a well-equipped library located in the Old Shrine Room, for monks, devotees and youths. It has a collection of 17,830 books on Religion, Philosophy apart from the Ramakrishna–Vivekananda–Vedanta literature. 28 monthly journals and periodicals are subscribed as well as 5 daily newspapers are also available at the library.

​Sarada Seva Sangha

On the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Holy Mother, a large number of local woman devotees formed a ‘Sangha’ named as ‘Sarada Seva Sangha’. The members of the Sangha meet on the 2th and 4th Saturday of every month in the Old Shrine and perform Bhajans followed by reading from the Life and Teachings of Holy Mother.

The Sangha were established by some serious devotees in small scale which culminated with present membership of 25 women. Besides meeting regularly twice a month for spiritual discussions and discourses, retreats were organized on special occasions. The Sangha also published wall magazines with contribution from the members twice a year. Members of Sangha also actively participated and helped in Mission activities like, teaching in Gadhadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa and identifying and distributing medicines, nutrients, vitamins and food supplements etc. to poor and needy pregnant ladies, nursing mothers and their children living under poverty line.

Durga Puja Celebration at Ramakrishna Ashrama, Dehradun 2023

We are delighted to share with you the pictures of the grand celebration of Durga Puja 2023, at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Dehradun. Over the course of four days, around 20,000 devotees gathered to participate in this auspicious Puja ceremony.
